Mandatory Transgender Rights Poster Is Now Available

Beginning January 1, 2018, California employers are required to display the “Transgender Rights in the Workplace” poster created by the Department of Fair Employment and Housing (“DFEH”).  Employers must place the poster in a prominent and accessible location in the workplace.

The DFEH published on its website the mandatory poster, which is available in English ( and in Spanish ( The DFEH’s website indicates it will post a version of the poster in Chinese, Korean, Tagalog, and Vietnamese.  As a reminder, if ten percent or more of a company’s workforce speaks a language other than English, the poster must also be displayed in that language or languages.

According to the DFEH’s website, an employer should display all DFEH required posters in a conspicuous place where the poster can be easily seen and read by employees and job applicants.  DFEH required postings must also be in text large enough and legible to be easily read.  The DFEH’s website notes an employer may choose to purchase and display an “all-in-one” poster rather than display each separate poster.
